We call it compassionate silk because it is collected + processed nonviolently, meaning we work with nature's cycles and allow silk worms to emerge from their cocoons instead of the traditional way of cultivating that requires boiling them. No harm, excess or greenwashing here.
These are knit in the same small-run space as our compassionate silk undie fabric, so you can trust that these are just as beautifully made.
Because these are dyed with plants their color will shift color over time and can react to differently to different detergents (we think this is kind of fun and adds to your socks being extra unique). Please use gentle or eco detergents and wash cold for the longevity of your sock fibers and planet.
The Details
silk is naturally moisture-wicking, breathable + oh-so soft against skin. it is the strongest natural fiber + also has a much lower impact than cotton or synthetics production, using far less water, energy, chemicals and pesticides to grow/make. this magic material is also superb for low impact/ plant dyes, which means cool-colored socks without skin-irritating colorants.
